How To – Developing your own signature style

There are thousands of photographers in the world and for beginners, one of the big questions is, How do I make myself known in such a large industry? Another is, How do I make my work stand out from others?

For any project that I photograph, personal or for a client, I try to do something new if possible. I say “if possible” because there are many times where I don’t feel like doing something different that’s out of the normal from what I usually do. Most of the time I do end up having captured something unique to always retain that eye-grabbing attention many see when viewing my catalog of images.

From the examples, you can see how creative I can be, especially when its my yearly Everyday Life projects. I don’t photograph everyday as you might think from the title of the projects, it’s called Everday Life simply because that’s just what it is, I’m photographing things of Everyday Life. 365 day projects aren’t the best way to go for any new or professional photographer. Trying to take a photo everyday will drain you and you will run out of creative ideas. You need to have breaks to regain focus and that’s what makes the creativity flow, once it starts coming!

When dealing with clients, there’s so much you can do. For weddings examples, your creativity can come with designing albums, collages and so much more! Photography is a fun and great art to do when you’re open minded and continue trying something new and different that makes you continue learning something new to add to what you do. The more you try the more your skills will advance and you will see the difference in your work years down the road. I’ve looked back at older images I’ve taken and compared them to present ones and there’s always a significant difference!

If you have a love and drive for photography then continue learning as much as possible and experimenting!
